 Roles of The Family Members!


Today I would love to touch on the roles of the family. I am going to go through the fathers, mothers and the son and daughters roles in the family. If you would like to read more about the importance of families then you can read The Family: A Proclamation to the World.


The role you have in your family is one of the most important roles that you will have in your life. Each and everyone of us will play a role whether we would like to or not so we should strive for a role that will uplift and help those that we love.


The Father’s Role

The fathers role in the family “By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families”(The Family: A Proclamation to the World). I will try to break this down a bit. I will start with the word Preside. To preside means to take charge or give direction. A really good scripture that talks about this is Ephesians 5:23-25

23 For the ahusband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the bhead of the cchurch: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 aHusbands, blove your cwives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

 Now husbands that does not mean that you can abuse that power. As it states in Doctrine and Covenants 121:41-44 

41 No apower or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the bpriesthood, only by cpersuasion, by dlong-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

42 By akindness, and pure bknowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the csoul without dhypocrisy, and without eguile—

43 aReproving betimes with bsharpness, when cmoved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of dlove toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

44 That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of adeath.

Just as it stated in Ephesians 5:25 Love your wives just as Christ loved the Church. Husbands that means to give yourself fully to your wives don't hold anything back just as Jesus Christ gave everything for the Church even His life.

The fathers/husbands are also responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Now what does Providing necessities of life and protection for their families even mean? The husband/fathers duty is to provide for the family, making sure they have a place to live, clothes, food, and education. Fathers, you should also spend time with your children one on one. During that time you can connect with them a lot better. You should also teach your children the moral and spiritual side of things as well. If you do it will let your children come to you about their problems and concerns which you can then counsel them but make sure you do it lovingly.

 

The Mother’s Role

The mothers role in the family is equally important in the family even if it is different. “Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children.” (The Family: A Proclamation to the World) President David O. McKay said(If you would like to read more read this section from President McKay it is truly beautiful) “The bringing of children into the world bears with it responsibilities and opens to view the noblest purpose of life, namely, a co-partnership with deity”. Mothers, you have such an important role in God's plan for all of us. Going off of what President David O. McKay said motherhood and bringing children into this world is the noblest purpose of life! Each of those children are a spiritual son or daughter of God. That means God entrusted you with his spiritual son or daughter for you to love and raise. Here is another quote from President David O. McKay from the same section as earlier. “Motherhood is the greatest potential influence either for good or ill in human life. The mother’s image is the first that stamps itself on the unwritten page of the young child’s mind. It is her caress that first awakens a sense of security; her kiss the first realization of affection; her sympathy and tenderness the first assurance that there is love in the world.”  Motherhood is one of the most beautiful things in the world and a lot of people are trying to tear it down to something that is worthless and undesirable and it is truly saddening.

 

The Children's Roles

The roles of the daughters and sons are pretty simple. They should respect and honor their parents and cooperate and work together in peace with their siblings. That is super simple right…. Hahaha sorry I made myself laugh. To children it is hard to work with their siblings and to some it would seem like the world was ending if they had to cooperate with one or more of their siblings. I myself only just started to get along with one of my brothers. Even to this day I am learning new things about my siblings.

Just Married (Will need to Adjust)

     So we talked about dating last week so this week I thought we should move on to early marriage. If you are dating in a correct and healthy way it should be a great way to get to know someone and learn if you will click with them and whether or not you would want to marry them. But remember when you marry someone and move in with them it does not matter how much you think you know them, you will learn even more about them after marrying them. For example while you are dating them you will find out what their hobbies are or what their favorite foods are. When you get a bit more serious you will also talk about how you would like to raise your children and your expectations out of your relationship together. Then when you marry them you will have to change how you live. You will have someone else in the bed with you, you will have to get used to someone else's things cluttering up the bathroom, you have to put up with each other's little quirks. How To Be Active In Active Parenting!

     This week I want to talk about how we can be an active parent instead of a reactive parent. When you are raising a child, you don't want to only react to what your child does. The purpose of parenting is to protect and provide for your children so they can be prepared in this world and the next. That is why taking an active part in raising your children is what I believe is a parents responsibility and duty to not only their child but to God.      When you are raising a child they can get annoying, you can get frustrated with them and you may feel at your wits end but the child is acting that way for a reason and it is the parents responsibility to fulfill that need for their own children.
